ロンドンの地下鉄内で
広告以外に見かけるもの。
それは…
詩（ポエム）です。
いわゆる「額面広告」というものが
貼り出される位置に
ときどき、広告のかわりに
詩が貼られています。
（たしか、日本では以前『中吊り小説 』というのがあり、
それらは、作家の方が、
中吊りに印刷されることを想定して
あらたに小説を書き下ろしていたと思うのですが
ロンドン地下鉄のポエムは
すでに過去に発表された詩から
選ばれているようです。
あ、ちなみに、
ロンドンの地下鉄に中吊り広告はありません。）
このPoems on the Undergroundというプロジェクトでは、
1986年以来、
古今東西から集められた詩、
300作品以上が紹介されてきたそうで
紹介された詩をまとめた書籍も発行されています。
また、オーディオで、いくつかの詩を
聞くこともできるそうです。

Dear Mami san
I love them, too! I used to think writing/reading a poem was such a nuff thing to do… but now, knowing many people around do compose their own words and even perform it, I am beginning to think it is quite emotional, and mostly positively painful activity. (Maybe I am just getting old.)
Reading those poems on the Tube is like a mind escape.
By the way, Mami-san, did you manage to take the picture while you were on the Tube??

Nice to see you – hope you are well!
It’s funny, when we saw that poster on the tube I said EXACTLY the same thing to Mami about the way people see poetry – normally the idea of reading poetry is about as attractive as a visit to the dentist. But when you’re on the tube and the only alternative is to read the adverts, then suddenly poetry is like an escape from all that.
